The post-industrial age of the twenty-first century affords designers with the unfortunate luxury of an overabundance of options.  A sense of restraint is necessary - how can our design palette be limited to not only create aesthetic balance but environmental and socio-economic equilibrium?  Muji's "no brand' less-is-more company mission allows for a platform to explore the layered meaning of minimalist design's responsibility in a new century.

 

The lighting design project explored four areas:

 

1) soft volumetric forms and linear highlights

2) sectional transition of light perceived through circulation

3) way finding and spatial gradation of light and shadow

4) collective over individual, uniting building as whole through light
